PooP (Poop Creative) in association with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the London International Animation Festival (LIAF) and the Global Handwashing Day coalition have launched a competition for short animation films, which tackle the serious issues of hygiene and sanitation in an engaging and thought-provoking way.
Why hygiene and sanitation? Quite simply, because 80% of disease in the developing world is caused by poor hygiene practice, inadequate sanitation and contaminated water. The simple act of washing hands with soap and water after going to the toilet or before preparing food can reduce diarrhoeal diseases by over 40%.
The winning films will form part of a global awareness-raising campaign in association with the Global Handwashing Day coalition (DFID, WHO, UNICEF, WaterAid, Pump Aid, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Unilever, P & G, GSK) to publicize the importance of good hygiene practice and adequate sanitation.
Expect an exciting programme of films that are:
hard-hitting, edgy, direct
surreal, oblique, tender
comic, irreverent, prophetic
poetic, profound, thought provoking
cosmic, mythological, abstract
factual, spoof, public information
Award presentations and screenings will take place as part of the LIAF festival and on Global Handwashing Day (15 October 09)
